Frequently asked questions
These are the answers to the questions we receive most often. Choose above whether you are the couple or a guest.
Getting started
How do we create our gallery?
- Sign up with your email address and a password.
- Confirm your email address with the link in your mail.
- Accept the terms.
Picjar then creates your gallery automatically. There is no further setup.
Can we manage several events in one account?
No. One account holds exactly one gallery.
For a second event, create a second account with a different email address.
The confirmation mail did not arrive. What now?
- Check your spam folder.
- Check the address for typos. You can still correct it before confirming.
- Press Send again. The button becomes active after a short wait.
Picjar rejects disposable addresses. Use a permanent address instead.
How do I change my email address?
Open the account settings in your dashboard and change the address there.
Picjar sends a confirmation link to the new address. The change takes effect after you follow that link.
Do I need an app?
No. Scan the QR code with your phone camera. The gallery opens in your browser.
There is no download and no installation.
Do I need an account?
No. You need no account, no password and no email address.
The invitation link is enough. Your device remembers which photos you uploaded.
I lost the link.
Scan the QR code again. You find it where you saw it first, for example on the tables.
Otherwise ask the couple for the link. The photos you already uploaded stay saved.
Can I use Picjar outside of Germany?
Invitations and QR code
How do our guests get the link?
Open the Share tab in your dashboard. There are three ways:
- Download the QR code and print it. This is the main route.
- Copy the link and send it to your guest group.
- Share it with your phone share function.
How many QR codes do we need?
For about 150 guests, 12 to 15 codes are enough.
Put one code on each table. Add one at the entrance and one in the washroom. The closer the code is to the guest, the more photos arrive.
What is the access code for?
The access code is an extra lock. It has four digits.
When it is set, a guest enters it once before uploading. You switch it on and off in the settings, and you can generate a new one at any time.
Why does the link preview no longer show our names?
You have set an access code. The preview in WhatsApp and similar services then shows neither your names nor your cover image.
This is deliberate: forwarding the link reveals nothing about your wedding. Remove the access code to get the preview back.
How do we switch uploading off?
Turn off the Active for guests switch in the settings.
The invitation link then leads to a notice instead of the gallery. Your photos stay. You can switch it back on at any time.
I am asked for a code.
The couple has set a four-digit access code.
The code is often printed next to the QR code. Otherwise ask the couple or a witness for it. You enter it only once.
Uploading photos and videos
How many photos are free?
The free gallery holds 20 files.
Videos count towards this number. So it is 20 files in total, not 20 photos plus videos. The upgrade removes the limit.
Do videos count towards the photo limit?
Yes. A video takes one of the 20 slots in the free gallery, exactly like a photo.
How long can a video be?
In the free gallery: one video up to 3 minutes.
With the upgrade: videos up to 15 minutes, and as many as you like.
Which file formats work?
Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, HEIC, HEIF, BMP, TIFF and AVIF.
Videos: MP4, M4V, MOV, WEBM, OGV, AVI, MKV, 3GP and 3G2.
Picjar rejects SVG files for security reasons.
How large can a file be?
A photo can be up to 50 MB.
A video can be up to 3 GB. Picjar uploads large videos in chunks. If the connection drops, the next attempt continues from the last confirmed point.
Does Picjar accept iPhone photos?
Yes. Picjar accepts HEIC and HEIF, the standard iPhone format.
If your file is still rejected, check its size first. Otherwise open Camera > Formats in the iPhone settings and choose Most Compatible. The iPhone then records in JPG.
Can I upload several photos at once?
Yes. Select several photos in the file dialog, or drag them onto the upload area together.
Picjar shows a separate progress bar for each file.
Does Picjar shrink the photos?
No. Picjar stores every file at the resolution the phone recorded.
The server then removes redundant data from the file. The pixels stay unchanged. The file gets smaller, the image does not get worse.
My file is too large. What can I do?
A photo may be 50 MB, a video 3 GB.
- For a photo: choose the original from your gallery instead of an export from an editing app.
- For a video: trim it in your phone photo app, or record it again at a lower resolution.
My video is too long. What can I do?
The free gallery accepts one video up to 3 minutes. With the upgrade the limit is 15 minutes.
Trim the video in your phone photo app, or split it into several short parts. Otherwise tell the couple if you want to keep a long speech.
The photo limit is reached. What does that mean?
The free gallery holds 20 files. Every slot is taken, so Picjar accepts nothing more right now.
The couple receives an automatic notice about this. They can remove the limit with the upgrade. The gallery then accepts any number of files.
Everything already uploaded stays.
Who sees what
Why do I only see my own photos?
This is the default. Every guest sees only what they uploaded themselves.
The couple sees all photos. They can also turn on the All photos visible switch. Guests then see each other photos too.
Your photos have arrived, even if you see nothing else.
Who can see my photos?
- The couple always sees them.
- Other guests see them only if the couple turned on the All photos visible switch.
- Nobody else. The gallery is blocked for search engines and reachable only through the invitation link.
Do our guests see each other photos?
Not by default. Every guest sees only their own uploads.
Turn on the All photos visible switch in the settings if everyone should see everything. You can undo this at any time.
Can somebody find the gallery by chance?
No. Search engines are not allowed to index the gallery.
The invitation link contains a long random key. Without it there is no way in. An access code secures the gallery further.
Downloading and keeping
How do we download all photos?
- Open the photo area in your dashboard.
- Select all files.
- Start the download.
Picjar packs the photos into ZIP files and shows how many parts there will be. Download every part.
Why does the download come in several parts?
Picjar limits each ZIP to about 500 MB.
Larger archives fail in many browsers, above all on phones. Several small parts arrive reliably. Download them one after another and extract them into the same folder.
Why are the videos not in the ZIP?
A single video is often larger than a whole ZIP archive. It would break the archive and make the download unreliable.
Download videos one by one from the full-screen view instead.
In which quality do the files arrive?
As the original. Picjar delivers exactly the file that was uploaded.
What you download stays on your device. It remains yours even after the gallery expires.
How do we start the slideshow?
Start it in the photo area of your dashboard. It suits a projector.
Image change between 1 and 60 seconds.
Order by time, random, or newest first.
Videos play in full length with sound.
New uploads appear while the show runs. A slideshow can be started an time.
How do I delete a photo I uploaded?
Tap the photo and choose Delete in the full-screen view.
You delete only your own uploads. You cannot delete photos of other guests. If another photo is a problem, report it.
Can I download photos of other guests?
Yes, as long as you can see them. That requires the couple to have made all photos visible.
Open the photo and download it from the full-screen view. A bulk download is available to the couple only.
Photo tasks
What are photo tasks?
Photo tasks are small prompts for the guests, for example: Photograph the most beautiful table.
A guest picks a task and uploads a matching photo. They can also assign an existing photo to a task afterwards. The tasks are voluntary.
Do photo tasks cost extra?
No. Photo tasks are included in every plan, the free gallery too.
Mind the limit of 20 files there. Many tasks fill a free gallery quickly.
Can we write our own tasks?
Yes. A custom task has between 3 and 140 characters.
You can sort all tasks, switch single ones off and remove them again. Removing a task keeps its photos.
Is there a leaderboard or a winner?
No, and that is deliberate.
Picjar only shows how many photos a task has already collected. There are no points, no names and no comparison between guests.
Plan, price and invoice
What does Picjar cost?
A gallery with 20 files is free.
The upgrade costs 39,90 € once per wedding. It removes the limit and secures access for 12 months from your wedding day.
What does the upgrade give us?
- Unlimited photos.
- Download at full resolution.
- Videos up to 15 minutes, and as many as you like.
- 12 months of access from your wedding day.
- A single payment, no subscription.
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay 39,90 € once and nothing after that.
There is no monthly fee, no per-guest fee and no automatic renewal.
Where do we find our invoice?
Open the account settings in your dashboard. Under Plan and invoice you download the invoice and view the payment receipt.
Picjar also sends the receipt by mail right after the purchase.
Can we cancel the upgrade?
Yes. You have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the purchase.
If you already used the unlocked gallery in that time, Picjar charges for the part already provided. The exact split and the withdrawal form are in the terms.
The payment went through, but the upgrade is missing.
The purchase is safe. Only the unlock is still pending.
- Reload the page and try the unlock again.
- Wait a minute and repeat the step.
If it stays that way, write to us. Include the email address of your account.
Duration and deletion
How long does the gallery stay online?
The free gallery runs until 60 days after your wedding day. Without a date, the 60 days count from the day you created it. So you can set up the gallery long before the celebration and print the QR code.
With the upgrade it runs for 12 months. If your wedding date is still in the future when you buy, the 12 months count from the wedding day; if it is already in the past, from the purchase. In any case it is at least 12 months from the purchase. The exact date is in your dashboard.
When does the upgrade runtime start?
From your wedding day — as long as it is still in the future when you buy. That way you have the full 12 months after the celebration to download and share everything.
If your wedding is already in the past when you buy, the 12 months count from the purchase. In any case it is at least 12 months from the purchase.
The expiry date is fixed at purchase. If you change your wedding date afterwards, it stays as it is. The date can be at most two years in the future. The expiry date is shown in your dashboard.
What happens after expiry?
Picjar deletes the gallery with all photos and videos. If it was your last gallery, the account is deleted as well.
Download everything before that. Picjar reminds you by mail in good time, several times and with growing urgency.
You can create a new account at any time.
How much time is left after the expiry date?
For a paid gallery, Picjar waits another 14 days after the expiry date before deleting.
Do not rely on that. Download your photos before the expiry date.
How do we delete our account?
Open the account settings in your dashboard. At the bottom is the danger zone with Delete account.
You confirm the step with a checkbox. Picjar then deletes the gallery, all photos and the account. This cannot be undone. Save everything you want to keep first.
Privacy and rights
Where are the photos stored?
On servers in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The storage is not public. Every image is delivered through a short-lived signed link, so an image file cannot simply be passed on.
What do I confirm before my first upload?
You confirm three points:
- You hold the rights to the images.
- The people shown agree. For children, their parents agree.
- The couple and the other guests may view, download and print your uploads privately.
How do I report a photo?
Open the photo and choose Report. Give a reason, for example copyright, personality rights or protection of minors.
A human decides on every report. You receive the decision with reasons. The affected person sees it too.
A photo shows my child. How do I have it removed?
Report the photo and choose the reason Protection of minors. For this reason you may leave out your name and email address.
You can also write to us instead. Guardians can request deletion at any time.
When something goes wrong
The upload stops.
Press Retry on the affected file.
Picjar uploads large files in chunks. A new attempt continues where the last one stopped, so you do not upload everything again.
Keep the tab open until the progress reaches 100 percent.
The venue wifi is bad.
- Turn wifi off and use mobile data. In crowded halls that is often faster.
- Upload a few files at a time instead of many.
- Upload the rest later from home. The invitation link stays valid while the gallery runs.
A guest cannot upload anything.
Check in this order:
- Is the Active for guests switch on?
- Is the limit of 20 files reached? The guest then sees a notice.
- Did you set an access code? The guest needs it.
- Is the file too large or the video too long?
- Has the gallery expired?
A photo is missing from the gallery.
- Reload the page. The thumbnail is created shortly after the upload and needs a moment.
- Ask the guest whether the progress reached 100 percent.
- Check whether the photo was reported and removed. Picjar informs you about a decision by mail.
